USPian Alumni jam for a better USPF

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
 -Berthold Auerbach

Do you have a beating heart for music? Are you keeping music instruments and materials at home (e.g. piano, guitar, music books and pieces) and letting the dust (or worse, termites) play with them? Oh you can do better than that! How about donating those to the College of Arts & Sciences' AB Music Department?

The AB Music Department welcomes endowments/gifts/donations for the promotion of the love for music and understanding of the arts.  Should you decide to finally dust off those violins, cellos, and other soul warming music instruments and materials, do drop by the Uspf OfficeOf AlumniRelations or keep in touch with the USPF AB Music Department:

USPF, an International Students-Friendly School. Education for international students is a critical component of the 21st- century learning. Most educational institutions are challenged to open its door for multicultural education. The increasing demands of accepting international students have prompted the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) to legitimize multicultural education, facilitating the creation of programs and practices that promote cultural diversity and equal educational opportunities for international students.

The USPF has created the Office for International Students and Special Programs (OISSP) to prepare an appropriate program for the integration of international students into the academic and social life of the University. The OISP has launched the campaign making the university an - International Students-Friendly School. With many opportunities for involvement on campus, international students have the chance to intimately learn about variety of culture. The OISP strongly advocate in providing assistance to the international students in order to make their stay in the campus an exciting experience of a lifetime.

The concept of making USPF as international students-friendly school will provide support for the international students in their academic and cultural adjustments; offer opportunities for involvement in the University community; and create a venue for intercultural appreciation for the international students to share their culture.(For more information, please contact Dr. Bryant C. Acar, OISP Chair at Tel nos. 4148773 local 144)

GS DepEd Scholars hold Culminating Program. The USPF-Gs and DepEd Cebu City Division are strongly empowering the teachers to further enhance their skills in teaching Science. The training program is well participated by various higher education institutions and the USPF-GS has accepted the challenge in taking the lead in the faculty development of DepEd. The first batch successfully finished the certificate program for elementary science teaching last summer of 2009. The second batch is now on its training and has just finished two subjects: Elementary Science Curriculum and Instructional Resources in Science.  As part of the culminating activity for the first semester, the science teachers organized an exhibit and short program held last October 19, 2009 at AVR1 of Don Agustin Jereza Bldg., USPF. The exhibit showcased the instructional resources personally made by the teachers. Among the exhibited resources were posters, flip charts, transparencies, story board, models, video clips, power point presentations and many more. Mr. Danilo Gudelosao, Science Supervisor of DepEd Cebu City Division was the invited guest who did the honor of cutting the ribbon of the exhibits and who shed inspiration about commitment and dedication and how important that science teachers should be adept in using instructional technologies. Miss Hilda Enad and Mr. Guiilermo Fuentes Jr. were the leaders in the realization of such activity.  Dr. Bryant C. Acar and Professor Manuel Belandres were the course professors of the program and the science teachers gave honor and words of gratitude to their hard work, patience and creativity.   As finale, the science teachers shared their commitment to finish the program and utilize whatever they have learned.

USPF celebrates Teachers’ Day. In response to the call of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate World Teachers’ Day, the Office for International Students and Special Programs organized Photo Contest, Photo Exhibit and Inspirational Talk on October 1, 2009 at the Lobby of Don Agustin Jereza building with the theme “My Teacher, My Hero.”
Among the objectives of the celebration are to generate widespread awareness and support for World Teachers’ Day; use the occasion to celebrate the unique role and service that teachers play in guiding families, strengthening communities, and building the nation; revitalize the image of teaching as a vocation by increasing public awareness on the value of teachers in Philippine society and national development.
The call of UNESCO has urged all possible cooperators to pay tribute to our teachers by preparing simple, creative, and meaningful activities that will affirm and celebrate the value of teachers to the community and nation. The USPF has responded to this call. A photo contest, exhibit and inspirational talk were organized. The photos were personally captured by the students as they deliver and execute their own interpretation of the theme, “My Teacher, My Hero.” Immortalized in the photos were images of teachers in action. Part of the program was the inspirational talk of Mrs. Elnora N. Almario (Principal, Elementary Department, (USPF). She inspired the audience of her experience as a teacher.
It is hoped that through this activity, the celebration of World Teachers’ Day will be raised to the same level as that of Mothers’ or Fathers’ Day and our teachers will be accorded the recognition and appreciation they deserve in playing their central role in guiding our children, the youth, and even adults, through the lifelong learning process.
