USPians mark 33rd Cebu Popular Music Festival (2013)

Judge Simeon Dumdum, Jr., chairperson of the 33rd Cebu Popular Music Festival 2013 proclaimed Knch Lhnn Cabillo and Niño James Bañares as Best Interpreter and 3rd place winner, respectively.  The music festival is held on the 18th of January at the Cebu Coliseum.

Known nation-wide as the cute girl from Cebu who impressed the judges in Pilipinas Got Talent season 3, the eleven-year-old USPian pupil Knch Lhnn interpreted Erwin Lirazan's composition, "Salamat."  

Knch Lhnn continues to enjoy singing her way through grade school as a full scholarship grantee of the USP Alumni Association Incorporated (USP AAI)

Licensed teacher, choir director, music consultant and freelance musician, Mr. Niño James Bañares (USPian AB Music alumnus class of 2001) wrote the lyrics with Ramonito Carbon, composed the music and arranged the vocals of the Cebu Pop's 3rd prize winner "Amomahon Ka."* 

A professional artist, Niño is a composer of many well-loved pieces, including the song "Ako'y Iyo, O Senyor Sto. Niño" which won him 3rd place in the 5th Huniño of 2011. He is a level-4 with merit passer of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). 

Niño, a former scholar of the Salvador and Pilar Sala Foundation, Inc., continues to surround himself with exquisite music and furthers his professional growth as a member of and oboe player at the Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra
